Real Wedding – A fine and funky wedding!

I am so thrilled to be featuring today’s real wedding as it is absoloutely stunning and very inspirational!

Kim and Chris got married on 26th June 2010 at the Holy Rosary Church in Billingham, followed by a reception at the gorgeous Danby Castle, all of the photographs featured are by the amazing Karen McGowran, check her out at

The church they married in was chosen for beautifully sentimental reasons – it is the same church where Chris and his sisters were christened and confirmed and Chris’ eldest sister was also married there. Although Kim is not catholic or christened she knew it meant a lot to Chris and his family that they were married there, and so they were. It’s lovely to be able to have your ceremony somewhere so meaningful.

How stunning is that engagement ring? Being such an unusual shape Kim had to have a wedding band made to match by Rings by Design. Chris’s ring was much simpler – a brushed effect band from Beaverbrooks.

The beautiful reception flowers were by Wild Bunch based in Sunderland, who Kim met at a wedding fayre – their display of a banqueting table covered in moss really caught her eye and Kim arranged a meeting with them straight away. Armed with a moodboard of ideas Kim and florist Lisa created 13 tablecentres which were a mixture of flowers in either cream watering cans, cream vintage cake stands or vintage bird cages. Her bouquet and buttonholes were from Hilary Madden and Kim’s great-grandma’s ring was tied into her bouquet using silk and vintage buttons from her dress.

Kim’s gorgeous dress was designed by the bride herself and made my Laura Day Bridal in Middlesborough. Kim wanted something a bit different from your standard wedding dress and is inspired by iconic women from the 50’s such as Audrey Hepburn. Being petite and planning a rustic reception Kim knew that she didn’t want a train and so using lots of inspiration created her perfect dress – it is simply beautiful!

During the day Kim teamed her dress with Rachel Simpson shoes, a veil from Laura Day, and swarovski accessories – later on in the evening changing into her cute wellies!

I love this image above! The bridesmaid dresses were Alfred Sung D448 in Begonia, teamed with shoes from Faith, hair accessories from Accessorize and jewelery as a present from Kim and Chris. Kim’s flowergirl wore a dress handmade by the bride’s nan.

The couple set up a favour table with favours of Sarah Nelson Grassmere Gingerbread, Personalise bottles of Lake Garda Olive oil and packets of forget me not seeds.

They also had a sweety table with lots of retro sweets which went down really well with their guests. Little details such as pinwheels and ‘Eat Me’ cupcake sticks added a fun finishing touch. The little details were clearly important to Kim who made and hired 70 metres of bunting!

Family is very important to the couple and they had lots of kids at their wedding. To keep them occupied an area was set up with loads of toys and entertainment on hand for them – with a big ‘No Adults Allowed’  sign which I’m sure made the kids happy!
